Famine in Africa Dadaab Refugee Camp

Dadaab, Kenya – August 13, 2011: A newly arrived Somalian baby refugee feep up by her mother while waiting following their registration and food on August 13, 2011 at the Dadaab refuge complex. UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Valerie Amos toured today the refuge complex holding more that 440,000 refugees during the third day of her visit to southern Somalia and to the Kenya-hosted refugee complex to asses the impact of the famine. Her visit comes as the UN said its moving on two fronts to counter the worsening food crisis in the Horn of Africa, with an immediate infusion of food in an area where 640,000 children alone are threatened with acute malnutrition.
